The King of Kings
This Angel Studios animated film, released April 11, 2025 with a PG rating, frames the life of Jesus as a bedtime story told by Charles Dickens to his young son Walter, covering the Nativity through the Resurrection. The story is handled with care and the biblical violence is muted (no blood during the crucifixion or crown of thorns), but several scenes involving a demon-possessed man, Herod's order to kill infants, and the crucifixion itself carry real emotional weight that may be a lot for the youngest viewers.
Best enjoyed with an adult alongside to answer questions; most comfortable for children around 7 and up, with extra care for sensitive kids under 10.
If you’d rather skip
Walter's cat interrupts Dickens' public performance of A Christmas Carol, causing chaos; sets up the frame story but models disruptive behavior.
Herod is shown as angry and threatening, ordering soldiers to kill infants; soldiers are seen with spears though no killing takes place on screen.
A man in chains is shown as demon-possessed; the demon is cast out as a whirlwind with loud, dramatic audio that could frighten younger or sensitive children.
