Suzume
A beautifully animated Japanese fantasy about a teenage girl racing across Japan to close supernatural doors before they trigger earthquakes, woven through with a heartfelt story about childhood loss and finding family again. The emotional themes of a mother's death, natural disaster imagery, and some tense supernatural peril make it a richer watch than the bright animation might suggest.
Most comfortable for kids 10 and up; younger viewers who handle big feelings well may enjoy it with a grown-up close by.

The giant supernatural worm first appears as writhing red and black smoke rising from an open door; it looks menacing and is played as a serious threat.
A desolate, bone-strewn beach in another dimension appears more than once; a character sits frozen there as ice slowly climbs over their body.
A character is fully encased in ice in the otherworld and appears lost; Suzume is devastated and must act to save them under extreme pressure.
