Star Trek: Starfleet Academy
This 10-episode first season follows a scrappy group of young cadets training at a reopened Starfleet Academy in the 32nd century, mixing YA coming-of-age drama with sci-fi action and classic Trek optimism. It carries noticeably stronger language than most Star Trek series, along with recurring combat, a villain who takes cadets hostage, and teen romance.
Confident teen Trek fans (13+) who can handle adult language and action-movie-level violence; this is not a fit for younger children.
Episodes to know about
The series premiere is the most viscerally violent episode: multiple bloody fistfights, a man biting off part of someone's ear, a character impaled with a sharp object and later operated on with visible bleeding, a gun pressed to a character's head, electric shock collars in a prison, and a ship crash injuring people inside.
A young child is shown being separated from his mother; both are visibly distressed, and this backstory continues to weigh on the main character throughout the season.
Strong language begins immediately in episode 1 and continues across the whole run; parents who are sensitive to this should know it starts from the very first scene.
