Sketch
This Angel Studios live-action fantasy (August 2025, PG) follows a grieving family whose daughter's monster-filled sketchbook magically comes to life, unleashing crayon-and-chalk creatures on the town. It earns its PG firmly: the monster sequences are genuinely scary with multiple jump scares, the language includes 'shit,' 'bastard,' and 'dumbass,' and the death-of-a-parent theme is handled earnestly rather than lightly.
Best for kids 10 and up who enjoy creature-adventure films in the tradition of Goosebumps or Gremlins, ideally watched alongside a parent who can check in about the grief themes.

The film establishes from the very first scene that the children's mother has died; the father meets with a school counselor about Amber's grief-driven violent drawings.
Amber's sketchbook drawings of monsters are shown on screen and described in dialogue, including depictions of strangulation, stabbing, and pulling out eyeballs.
Monsters begin coming to life at feature size; children are chased and threatened by creatures throughout the entire second and third acts with little reprieve.
