Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku
This dark fantasy anime follows a near-immortal ninja and a samurai executioner sent to a deadly supernatural island to retrieve an elixir of life, competing alongside other condemned criminals. The series carries TV-MA content throughout, including relentless graphic gore, body horror, nudity, and sexual content that is woven into almost every episode.
Older teens and adults only; not suitable for children or younger teens.
Episodes to know about
The first episode opens with a failed execution sequence showing the protagonist surviving beheading, drowning, and burning with graphic blood and injury detail; also shows a boat full of grotesquely disfigured corpses covered in flowers.
Twisted, ruined bodies returned from the island are shown draped in blossoms; the juxtaposition of beauty and extreme body horror is deliberately disturbing.
Decapitations, severed limbs, and characters having large portions of their bodies destroyed are shown with full gore in nearly every episode.
