DreamWorks Dragons: The Nine Realms
This report covers the full series (Seasons 1–8, 2021–2023). A modern-day spin-off set 1,300 years after How to Train Your Dragon, following a group of kids who discover dragons hiding in a vast underground fissure and must keep them secret. Adventure and friendship are front and center, with peril that runs a little hotter than the youngest viewers can handle but stays well within tween-friendly territory.
A comfortable fit for kids around 7 and up who love creature adventures; best saved for after preschool years due to recurring chase-and-rescue tension.
Episodes to know about
Multiple near-death experiences and rescue situations appear in nearly every episode throughout all eight seasons; children in the main cast are regularly shown frightened or in danger.
Villain Buzzsaw uses a tomahawk to attack a dragon, threatens to cut off the dragon's head, and traps the creature in a net; played as a genuine threat rather than slapstick.
Buzzsaw's ambush and dragon-trapping scene may feel frightening for younger kids given the villain's deceptive and menacing behavior.
