Despicable Me 2
Gru is back, now a reformed dad teaming up with a spy agency to stop a new villain who turns the lovable yellow Minions into snarling purple monsters. It is a warm, funny adventure with plenty of slapstick, a sweet family heart, and a few sequences that can startle the youngest viewers.
Most children 5 and up will have a great time; sensitive kids or those under 5 may need a parent nearby for the purple-Minion scenes.

A giant magnet aircraft swoops down and sucks an entire Arctic research laboratory, workers included, into the sky without warning, which can feel abrupt and startling for young viewers.
Lucy fires a tranquilizer dart to knock out Gru's date, who slumps unconscious; played for comedy but the dart and sudden collapse may surprise young children.
Minions are shown being injected with purple serum and transforming into wild, fanged, frazzle-haired monsters that rampage and devour everything in sight; the transformation close-ups are this film's most unsettling stretch.
