Creepy Carrots!

Book · 2012 · Aaron Reynolds, illustrated by Peter Brown

Jasper Rabbit becomes convinced the carrots he loves to snack on are following him everywhere, in this Caldecott Honor picture book that plays classic horror tropes entirely for laughs. The spookiness is light and intentionally silly, landing much closer to giggle territory than nightmare territory for most young readers.

Great for preschoolers and early elementary readers who enjoy a little silliness with their suspense, especially fans of funny twists.

Jasper spots carrot shapes gathered around a tombstone, the book's one brief nod toward death imagery; it is fleeting and comic in tone but worth knowing about for families with very young children.
