Bluey
Bluey is a beloved Australian animated preschool series that has been airing since 2018 and continues to run today, following six-year-old Blue Heeler puppy Bluey, her little sister Bingo, and their warm, playfully imperfect parents Bandit and Chilli through imaginative everyday adventures. The show is exceptionally gentle and positive, though a handful of episodes weave in genuinely moving themes — pet death, moving house, and implied pregnancy loss — that are handled with real care but may prompt big feelings or big questions.
A wonderful fit for ages 2 and up; the emotional depth of some episodes is best explored together with a grown-up nearby.
Episodes to know about
An episode follows Bluey finding an injured bird and taking it to the vet, where it does not survive; presented gently as an introduction to the concept of death and worth watching together.
"Sleepytime" follows Bingo navigating her first night alone through a dream sequence; emotionally resonant for both children and parents, a lovely one to discuss afterward.
"The Sign" is a feature-length episode dealing with the family potentially moving cities and selling their home; the most emotionally intense single entry in the series, and may prompt questions about change and family stability.
